Fans of the Baltimore Ravens bid farewell to pe
City rating:
Reed, 34, has considered retirement after each of the last couple of seasons, and with his contract due to expire at season's end, it may be a natural stopping point for the ball-hawking safety. But after Sunday's win over the Indianapolis Colts, Reed insisted that his sole focus was on next week's game at Denver, not his future.

Wild Card Weekend: Wilson sparks Seattle
City rating:
You have to wonder how this game would have turned out if Robert Griffin III hadn't tweaked his knee in the first quarter and erased any chance he had of being effective under center. Or if Redskins coach Mike Shanahan had turned the offense over to Kirk Cousins, who has shown in the past that he can win games (as a backup and as a starter). Instead, Griffin might have hurt himself even worse in the fourth quarter on a botched snap, and Cousins had little chance to overcome a 10-point deficit.

Bruce Arians released from hospital, resting at home
City rating:
Colts offensive coordinator Bruce Arians has been released from an Indianapolis hospital, and he plans to rest for a few days before starting interviews for open head-coaching positions with NFL teams, NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday. No interviews have been scheduled, but NFL teams reportedly interested in meeting with Arians include the Philadelphia Eagles, Cleveland Browns, Chicago Bears and San Diego Chargers. On Wednesday, the Chargers hired Tom Telesco, the Colts' former vice president of football operations, as their new general manager

Cowboys' Rob Ryan out
City rating:
The Dallas Cowboys fired defensive coordinator Rob Ryan on Tuesday, according to multiple reports. Ryan was let go after the Cowboys missed the postseason for a third consecutive year. His firing ends a two-year tenure with the team. Under Ryan's tutelage, the Cowboys ranked among the league's top 20 total defenses, placing 14th in 2011 but slipping to 19th in 2012, perhaps in large part as a result of injuries to many of Dallas' key defensive players. Ryan becomes the second casualty of the Cowboys' coaching staff. Running backs coach Skip Peete was fired on Monday.

Where in the world is Todd Haley?
City rating:
Where in the world is Todd Haley? With the Arizona Cardinals looking for their next head coach, we have conflicting reports on the Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator's whereabouts. A source close to Haley first told NFL.com's Ian Rapoport the coach won't meet with the Cardinals after the team requested permission for an interview.

City rating:
Justin Smith hasn't played in nearly a month, but the San Francisco 49ers believe their anchoring defensive lineman will be ready for Saturday night's divisional playoff game against the Green Bay Packers. "God willing and the creek don't rise, he's going to play," 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh said Wednesday, via Steve Corkran of the Contra Costa Times.
