Food in Chicago is excellent! There is so much variety. There are many places for steak (Carmine's, Wildfire). There is also great Italian (Sappori Trattoria). Many ethnic restaurants if you want tasty affordable alternatives. My advice - go to a BYOB with a bottle or two of wine and you'll save.

Hotels along Michigan Avenue are fun yet expensive. For a cheaper place in a great location, try Congress Plaza hotel.

With approximately 16 million people, Karachi is the most cosmopolitan city of Pakistan. It is also the economic hub of the country. It offers many things: night life, many places to eat, a beach, shopping options, and sports activities.

Labor is cheap in Karachi. Tailor made dresses/suits of good quality are much cheaper than one may find in Europe or North America. Transport is also quite cheap. A rented car with driver and fuel will cost roughly $35 per day (based on 2007 estimate).

Keeping a low profile, regardless of where you are, is always a wise choice. Showing off cell phones, cameras, and jewellery, and carrying a lot of hard cash is not a good idea. Travel with those Pakistanis who have been to other parts of the world and make good friends. This might help in addressing safety issues. People, in general, are quite progressive, hospitable, and hard working.
