A historic city that was rebuilt again and again, with some marginal changes in geographical extent, it has three estates of the Indian government. In Mahabharata era, it was Hastinapur. The Purana Qila is said to be the site of Pandavas. The British contributiion is Lutyens' Delhi, a stately regal splendid magnificent city, with Rasjtrapati Bhavan, built for the Viceroy, in 1930s. He never stayed thre. the President of India has by convention shunned the main quarters reserved for the head of State.

The Qutb Minar, The Red Fort (Lal Qila), Purna Qila, Jama Masjid, Humayun's Tomb, Lodhi Gardens, Jantar Mantar and Rashtrapati Bhawan. Connaught Circus and Janpath have their own charm.

Both Punjabi and North Indian cuisine, Moghlai. Exotic cuisine is the craze now. Continental Italian, the list goes on...One has cheap roadside dhabas, eateires. . and expensive hotels.

Local "black" markets have much to offer. Language barrier is an issue, so bartering can be problematic. Best to have a local as a guide and don't be surprised at the practice of Mongols being charged far less than tourist.

Cashmire is a reasonable purchase. A cashmire or camelhair blanket will be a purchase you will enjoy for decades.

Be very careful of traffic. Pickpockets. Being out at night might be a problem, yet doesn't seem to bother residents, but much of the city's once operational street lighting doesn't work.
